a Gig Day

As my good friend and GILES drummer Terry Shaugnessy said: “gig days are good days”

When you know you will be doing a concert later on, the whole day takes on a different flavour. Your main focus is that experience in front of an audience. You need to get your head in the right place.

I will be playing at La Maloca in Villa de Leyva at 6 pm tonight. I went to see a theatre performance there last night, to check it out. It is an absolutely stunning little theatre, but… there was hardly anyone there to see the performance! I intend to do everything I still can to get people to my gig tonight.

I have arranged a last minute interview with the local radio show, and hopefully they will play some of my acoustic songs, and maybe some of GILES too. Most shops and taxis tend to play the local show, so that should help.

the main plaza

I also managed to get hold of the last 10 little pamphlets, which are to be used as efficiently as possible. At lunchtime, I might do a little run of the main plaza in town, looking for obvious visitors that might enjoy the show. Couples are main targets of course, since two are more than one!

I also need to sort out a mixer for tonight. The theatre has a little sound system (little being the operative word!) but no mixer, and I need to mix the stereo output from my loop station with my microphone. Luckily the place is good for sound, so the little sound system should hopefully still produce a full sound.

I am trying to get everything done this morning. This afternoon, my main focus will be to relax, and clear my mind for the gig.

Wish me luck and I will let you know how it went!
