Building a house in Spain

by on Feb.21, 2012, under Building a house in Spain

on the river

A couple of weeks ago, the most amazing thing happened. Greys and I bought a little piece of land in Spain, straight out of my dreams.

A little bit up in the mountains, on a river, just outside a sleepy little village, it even has an orange grove on it!

Absolutely gorgeous

The only snag? You can’t build there

….not ‘officially’ anyway, which is why it was cheap.

However, in practice, it seems we might get away with a ‘temporary structure’.

So…. what to do?               Here’s the plan…

orange grove

I shall build a home that is:

  • facing East
  • off grid (sort of a necessity since there is no gas nor electricity)
  • eco-friendly
  • made from recycled materials as much as is practical (cheaper too!)
  • beautiful
  • warm in winter and cool in summer
  • set in a forest garden that will feed us

          and finally, but most importantly

  • easy to assemble and disassemble                                     in one day

Impossible? Well….

I have some ideas

so stay tuned!

SHRINE: Suel Jones admires his Buddha that has become a coffee house shrine

A couple years ago a former BP machinist named Suel Jones fell in love with a 700-pound white marble Buddha statue carved by a roadside sculptor in the Marble Mountains outside Da Nang, Vietnam.

“I just looked at it, I really can’t tell you why, maybe the face, maybe the texture,” he said. “I said, ‘I just want that one over there.’ ”

Seeing the statue jogged loose a memory from his time as a young Marine .... continue reading 'from another world'

GILES plays Hendrix

the greatest

‘GILES plays Hendrix’

Has kind of a ring to it, don’t you think?

We could do a nice poster with an image of Hendrix worked into it. Nothing too tacky.

It wouldn’t be a cover band of course, more like ‘interpreters’. And let’s face it, nobody ever managed to top Hendrix when it comes to juicy guitar music.

I think we could pull it off too. All we need is a couple of days of rehearsal and we are good to go. Piet and Terry would come from the UK for a week if I asked them to. The sun would make a nice change for them.

It seems Valencia has quite a few good music venues. I will have to go and check them out.

Just think though, the three of us, back on the road. Just like old times.

Would you buy a used car from a guy called Carlos?

including scrape

Well I did. Twice!!

Buying a used car in Spain is not as easy as in England, or as cheap. We had already spent days looking at cars. They had looked perfectly promising in the ad, but they were always disappointing in the flesh. Most of them had more than their fair share of bumps and scrapes, and they all looked and felt tired and worn out. Plus, I had read about people who .... continue reading 'Would you buy a used car from a guy called Carlos?'

Devotion

by on Jul.15, 2011, under inspiration

“Devotion is the simplest form of awareness. It is most natural. There is nothing more thorough, nothing more innocent, nothing more divine. Purity of the heart means feeling every act, every thought, every perception as the grace of Mother Divine, the Glory of God.” - Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
